* ABSTRACT | |||||||
We consider the Kane-Mele-Hubbard model with emphasis on the nature of the edge state. Within the mean-field approximation we examine the magnetic state of the system in the nanoribbon geometry as well as in the thermodynamic limit. It is found that the magnetism in the edge, which is induced by the Hubbard interaction in the nanoribbon geometry, persists in the thermodynamic limit. We also discuss the connection of the interaction- induced magnetic edge states with the phase transitions in the bulk states. |
