* ABSTRACT | |||||||
The current late time accelerating epoch of the Universe remains one of the most puzzling aspects of cosmology. Various explanations have been proposed, such as introducing a cosmological constant or a new form of dark energy. An alternative approach is to argue that at large (cosmological) distance scales, gravity is no longer described by General Relativity. In this talk, I will discuss some of the dark energy and modified gravity candidates that are currently being studied by the community - focusing on their observational signatures both within the context of cosmology and on astrophysical scales. I will discuss some of the difficulties associated with modifying gravity, and the limitations of the current crop of theories. |
