* ABSTRACT
The (Kashaev) volume conjecture and its generalization are very active research topics in both of mathematics and physics nowadays.Based on the Witten\\\\\\\'s physical interpretation of the Jones polynomial, this conjecture claims the polynomial can detect the hyperbolic volume of the knot and much more.
In this talk, I will explain this conjecture in an easygoing way. The topics are
[1] baby knot theory,
[2] meaning of the hyperbolic structure of knot,
[3] quantum knot invariant, especially the colored Jones polynomial,
[4] semi-classical limit of the colored Jones polynomial
and the volume conjecture,
[5] many aspects of the volume conjecture.
