    Overview
The APCTP-BLTP JINR Joint Workshop was initiated to promote cooperation between the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP) and the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (BLTP) of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR). The 7th Joint Workshop was held under the title  “Modern problems in nuclear and elementary particle physics” at Bolshiye Koti, Irkutsk Region, Russia, July 14-19, 2013. Researchers from both sides as well as Japanese participants presented intensive 36 talks on the modern problems in nuclear and elementary particle physics.  Encouraged by the success of this series of Joint Workshop, we are now in the stage to set up collaboration programs. In fact, we started to make publications from the results of the collaboration between the two sides, therefore, this joint activity is beneficial to the both and it requires the continuation of the Joint exchange program decisively. So, the 8th Joint Workshop should be another cornerstone of the constructive collaborations of the scientists from the two sides. Furthermore, from the 8th workshop, this activity will include Japanese and Chinese physicists to enrich the collaboration activities. Therefore, this workshop will make the joint activities between the APCTP and BLTP more concrete, which will enhance the friendship and mutual understanding of different cultures as well as scientific achievements of the two sides.
    Topics
    1. Strangeness nuclear physics
    2. Physics of nuclei for the 3rd generation of accelerator facilities: theory and experiment
    3. Current and future heavy ion accelerators and detectors
    4. Modern status of the Standard Model for nuclear and high energy physics which will include:
    a) Strong interaction. The perturbative and nonperturbative aspects of QCD, effective theories, chiral symmetry violation and restoration in hot/dense nuclear matter and frontiers of hadron spectroscopy, new properties of quark-gluon plasma.
    b) Electroweak Theory. LHC results on Higgs and other particles searching, new data on neutrino properties etc.
