The main goal of JRG is to promote talented young scientists to a scientific leader by offering them the opportunity to qualify for management positions in science. APCTP exchanged agreement with MPG(Max Planck Society) and POSTECH for establishment of JRGs at APCTP. APCTP initially launched two JRGs in 2008 and gradually extends the JRGs. Since 1969, the MPG has been supporting gifted young scientists and researchers through its Independent Junior Research Groups and this program continually makes huge successes.
JRG
The Leader is selected by renowned scholars in specific fields.
The Leader pursues his/her own research program.
The Leader runs his/her own group independently with a research fund.
Funds are available for 1-2 postdoctoral fellows, 1-2 PhD students which shall be recruited by the Leader, and for scientific activities including travel, seminars, workshop, visitors, and so on.
MPG has been running over 100 JRGs since 1969.
The Leader of JRG at MPG improves his/her research capacity and leadership, and gets a good position after JRG:
Almost half of the scientists: full professorship at a university in Germany or abroad
Every fifth scientist: Assistant professorship
Eight former heads of JRGs: Scientific Members of the MPG.
