* ABSTRACT | |||||||
An open path geometric phase is assigned to an entire energy band in a solid. This is carried out by using symmetry centers (Wyckoff positions) in the configuration space of the crystal, and the symmetry of Wannier functions around these centers. In recent years such open path geometric phases have been applied to the definition of polarization in solids. |
