* ABSTRACT | |||||||
We investigated some aspects of transport phenomena of two representative complex systems: granular materials and biological cells. In particular, we quantified the stability of the equilibrium states of granular materials by looking at the static bulk properties and transient local surface properties. We also explored the effects of geometrical modifications to the efficiency of transport of intra-cellular cargos in biological cells. We utilized scaled table-top experimentation and computational algorithms in the study of granular piles. On the other hand, we employed numerical modeling for the biological cell system research. |
